This programme supports individuals to develop and embed expertise in leading mathematics pedagogy and knowledge of how primary pupils learn mathematics.

Year one: focus is on broadening own understanding of, and skills in, teaching maths for mastery in  own classroom – and working with colleagues, including the headteacher, to develop teaching for mastery approaches across their school.

Year two: continuing work in own school, as well as working to support other local schools through hosting workshops and bespoke school visits

Time out of school and within school to work on developments (approximately 10 days in the first year) is funded (approximately £2000 per year, but exact amount to be confirmed), to support with any cover/staffing costs.

The second year onwards will require teacher release time and will be fully funded through the Maths Hubs. The exact number of days will be discussed with the Maths Hub and depend on the nature of the work carried out by the Mastery Specialist.

This fully-funded two-year programme supports secondary maths teachers and leaders to develop and embed expertise in leading mathematics pedagogy. Teachers will  enhance  their knowledge and understanding of how secondary pupils learn mathematics and have support to disseminate and lead changes within their mathematics department at school; working towards implementation of a teaching for mastery approach, which research has shown enables all pupils to thrive in mathematics.

Time out of school and within school to work on developments (approximately 7.5 days per year) is funded (approximately £1500 per year, but exact amount to be confirmed), to support with any cover/staffing costs, however this grant can also be spent on resources for the mathematics department as desired.

After two years, accredited Secondary Mastery Specialists are able to continue to sustain and enhance progress in their own school, as well as having the opportunity to support other local schools.

This programme will provide a regional support programme through a series of three days of workshops (face-to-face and online), practice development activities, and an online community. The face-to-face workshops will run regionally across England.

Participants undertake to plan, lead and evaluate a school development initiative for a school or group of schools and to record their planning, evaluation and reflection in an Accreditation Evidence Document.

Successful completion of the programme and satisfactory completion of all tasks and related paperwork will result in the participant being accredited as an NCETM Accredited School Development Lead.
